A copy of the 17th century tower was opened in Tokyo

On September 28, the Office of the Imperial Court of Japan presented to journalists a copy of the tower of the old Edo Castle in the Eastern Garden of the Imperial Palace, the news agency Jiji Press reports. On September 29, the tower will be opened to visitors. The historical tower was built in the early Edo period at the beginning of the 17th century. Then, presumably, it was the tallest building in Japan. However, the fire of 1657 destroyed the tower. Since then, she has never been completely restored. The decision to create a copy was made as part of the state program for the development of tourism. The construction took about two years. Initially, the attraction was planned to be presented to the public in March, but the opening was postponed due to the spread of coronavirus.
