Quarantine measures gradually lifted in DR Congo capital
In an area in the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where almost all cases of coronavirus infection detected in the country have been recorded, strict quarantine measures have been phased out since Wednesday, 22 April. This is reported by the Swahili Air Force. Banks and grocery stores began opening in the Gombe COVID-19, the epicentre of an outbreak of heart disease in which strict quarantine measures were introduced within two weeks. At the time of the quarantine, about 30 cases of COVID-19 were identified in Gomba, and 80% of those in contact with infected people were tracked. Police checkpoints were established at road junctions leading to Gomba. DR Congo has recorded 350 cases of the virus and 25 fatalities but there are fears the country's health authorities could face a larger outbreak in the number of people infected.
