On May 6, the head of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia and former Prime Minister of Northern Macedonia Zoran Zayev took part in the summit of European socialist parties, held simultaneously with the Zagreb Summit of the EU countries, also in an online format. According to Albanian news agency Telegrafi, in an address to the leaders of European socialist parties Zayev stressed that this summit was organized in conditions of planetary crisis and stressed that in the current conditions the need for solidarity and commitment to social democratic values has increased. Zayev cited EU assistance to the Western Balkans as an example of such solidarity. We are grateful to the EU for the assistance provided to our country and other countries of the Western Balkans, Zayev said, commenting on the EU decision to provide the countries of the region with an urgent assistance package worth 3.3 billion euros for reconstruction after the coronavirus pandemic. Welcoming the EU's plans to expand investment in the Western Balkans, Zaev stressed that the EU is the largest partner of Northern Macedonia and the entire Western Balkans region as a whole.
