Games without gays and lesbians will not be able to qualify for the BAFTA Award
The organizers of the BAFTA Games Awards announced that they are introducing standards of representativeness for video games applying for the award. This was announced on July 9 by the portal GamesIndustry. BAFTA organizers will begin to conduct such a check for games that will qualify for the Best British Game Award in 2021. Based on these standards, racial, gender and other diversity should be present not only in the games themselves, but also in the groups of studios that develop them. In total, four standards have been approved, in each of them there are points that the game must comply with. In particular, one of the paragraphs of standard A states that one of the main characters of the game should be related to various groups. As for games in which there is no plot, in it, for example, the number of LGBT characters should be at least 10% of the number of other heroes. At the same time, the so-called gender balance should be observed, that is, the number of men and women in the number of characters should be equal. The remaining items of the standard are devoted to minor heroes, storylines, regions, etc. In the event that developers create a game in a fictional world, they will have to report how they oppose stereotypes. The BAFTA Games Awards ceremony is scheduled for March 2021. In 2020, Outer Wilds was named the best game.
