Indonesia cannot explain the mass appearance of earthworms

Over the past few days, several areas of Indonesia have recorded the mass appearance of earthworms, according to the information portal Detik. The publication notes that the emergence of such a large number of earthworms on the ground in some regions of the country is the first time. The phenomenon of the emergence of earthworms in Solo and Klaten in the Indonesian province of Central Java received a response from researchers from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI). At the Institute, this phenomenon was linked to changes in the environment, which caused a large migration of earthworms. A new phenomenon in Central Java province has also been linked to an earthquake warning. A spokesman for Indonesia's meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said it was true that such natural phenomena in the form of mass earthworms were recorded before some earthquakes in the world. In Taiwan, for example, earthworms were reported to appear 10 days before a massive earthquake in the vicinity of Nantou in 1999. Indonesia also suggested that the mass occurrence of earthworms was associated with the spraying of disinfectants to control the spread of COVID-19. Indonesia's president, Joko Widodo, previously said the government had extended social assistance to 1.2 million families in Jakarta, according to the news agency.
